The Purpose of Relationships

Relationships can be extremely challenging.  I think this is because there are so many different dynamics involved when you are dealing with someone, especially if that person is your significant other.  If I haven’t learned anything else from my experiences, I’ve certainly learned that nothing really meets the eye.  There are many reasons why people connect and form relationships and most of the time we don’t go so far as to ask what the purpose of the relationship is.  Is this relationship really about what I think it’s about?

Well, unless you’ve taken some time to seriously evaluate through meditation or whatever means you use to connect with the infinite mind, then you may not have the full picture.  I learned a long time ago that people come into our lives to serve a purpose and those purposes can be many and varied.

Life has a way of making us grow, even when it isn’t on our agenda.  We attract people that bring a certain quality that we may need in order to advance to our next level.  Sometimes that quality isn’t always pleasant, but regardless, the purpose is to cause you to grow in some way.  People can enter our lives to teach us hard lessons that may be painful while we’re going through it.  Other times people enter our lives to motivate and inspire us to blossom, which of course is much more pleasant.  Some people come to totally transform us or to test or challenge a value or belief that may no longer be valid in your life.  In any of the above cases, growth is the goal.

I believe that in order to truly maximize your personal growth and development, then you need to be able to see how other people play a part in that.  Our growth and development on this earth has everything to do with our experiences, which almost always include other people.  I don’t believe that anything happens by chance.  The people in our lives are there for a reason and it’s up to us to find out the reason and then proceed accordingly.

So going forward, pay more attention to the people in your life and ask yourself what purpose are they serving in your life right now and what purpose are you serving in theirs?  There could be many reasons and understanding them can lead to greater personal insight, which leads to greater personal growth!  -love, sj
